Statement on Resignation of NIH Director Francis Collins
The Infectious Diseases Society of America and the HIV Medicine Association are grateful for the longtime leadership of Francis S. Collins at the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Collins has provided a steady, scientific voice throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, NIH was instrumental in researching, developing and communicating about lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines and treatments.
Dr. Collins is an admired scientist and a forward-thinking, compassionate leader. He championed young investigators, improved clinical trial guidelines and consistently supported objective scientific research that improved the nation’s health.
His 12 years at NIH will leave a lasting legacy for generations.
